5 Easy to Learn Crafts and Hobbies for Grown-ups

Being an adult can be hard. So many people get carried away with all of the responsibilities involved that they forget to relax and indulge a little.

The funny part is, once we do have some time for ourselves, we don’t know what to spend our time on. That’s why we’ve compiled a list of options to help you explore your creative side and make sure you’re enjoying yourself!

5 Easy to Learn Crafts and Hobbies for Grown-ups

1. Diamond Painting

If you fancy having a piece of artwork on your wall but just haven’t gotten around to it, diamond painting could be the new hobby for you.

In recent years, DIY diamond painting has gained a lot of interest due to its simplicity and exquisite results. Imagine a pixelated picture. But instead of pixels, you place ‘diamonds,’ also known as rhinestones or drills, onto the canvas.

There are 3 different types of diamond paintings.

  1. Pre-printed partial coverage painting. Your canvas will have a pre-printed image, and there will be some sections where you will place the diamonds.
  2. Pre-printed full coverage painting. Similar to the previous painting, there will be a pre-printed image on the canvas, but you will be placing diamonds on the whole canvas.
  3. Blank grid with full coverage. Essentially, you are given an empty grid and you're free to create and design it however you wish.

Typically, diamond painting instructions and diamond painting supplies are included in your purchase. So if you’re worried about getting all the materials you need, get diamonds kits so you won’t need to buy any extra materials for your painting.

The way you actually ‘paint’ with the diamonds comprises of 3 simple steps.

  1. Dip your diamond applicator in the wax provided in your diamond painting kit.
  2. Pick up the diamond on its rounded side with the same tip.
  3. Press the diamond against its corresponding position on the canvas. Even if you're not the neatest painter, that’s okay; you’ll be able to push the diamond slightly to move it to the desired position.

3. Adult Coloring Book

Remember the days when you had your crayons and your parents would ask you to ‘fill inside the lines’? Well, this hobby might lead you to reminisce.

Adult coloring books are more complicated versions of the drawing books you had as children. Themes of the drawings differ greatly, ranging from flowers to intricate patterns.

These coloring books are known to be one of the best stress-relieving hobbies. It's also a good mechanism for people who are going through rehabilitation.

If you’re just starting out, there are plenty of pre-printed coloring books for you to fill in with whatever colors you desire.

Once you feel like you’re a pro, you can transfer your work to a blank sheet and design the patterns yourself and then color them in. This way, you’ll be able to create and color whatever design you like.
